Obituary of Marjorie Fake Bowne

     Marjorie Fake Bowne, 97, of Amsterdam, formerly of Cobleskill, NY, passed away Tuesday February 25, 2020 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. 

     Born in Cobleskill, NY on August 15, 1922 a daughter of the late George and Florence Brandenstein Fake.  She was a graduate of Cobleskill High School Class of 1941.  She lived in Cobleskill most of her life.

     Marjorie worked for many years as the Medical Records Director at Bethesda Hospital in Hornell, NY.  The then was then worked in the same capacity for the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.  Then St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam retiring in 1978.  She was at one time chairman of the Schoharie County Red Cross Program.    

    She was a member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam and a former member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cobleskill.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

  Marjorie enjoyed cross stitching, knitting and watching soap operas.  Especially enjoyed Hershey kisses and chocolate wine.   

     She married Norman Bowne on  June 17, 1943. He passed away on September 24, 2011 following 68 years of marriage.   Survivors include a daughter, Judy Furman (Richard) of Fort Johnson, NY; grandchildren, Melissa (Brian Cummings) Metzger of Amsterdam,  Jennifer Smith (Col. Dennis, U.S. Army) of Lawton, OK; Susan (Michael) Hidde of Amsterdam and Linda Sanda of Amsterdam.  Great-grandchildren, Christopher, Owen, Sam, Jack, Natalie, Marissa, Alexis and Ben.  One great-grandson, Colt Hart. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Marjorie was predeceased by a son, Jeffery Bowne who passed away on May 3, 2000.

     A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 25, 2020 at 10:00 am at the St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Corner of Pine and Division Streets, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. John A. Califano officiating. Burial of  Marjorie’s cremated remains will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.   There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie’s memory to St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Pine Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 East Main Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
