Obituary of Mary Lou Remillard
Mrs. Mary Lou “Mim” Remillard, 80, of Rotterdam Junction, NY died peacefully at home on Monday, January 13, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born in the Town of Johnstown on May 3, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Lillian Strausser Simonds.
A lifelong area resident, Mim graduated from Woestina High School. For many years she worked for the Schalmont School District in the cafeteria. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She took great pride in her home and it was the center for family celebrations and holidays. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, spending summer’s in the pool and always welcomed a stray cat or two. Mim was an active grandparent, always present for concerts, sporting events and enjoyed sleigh riding. She loved country music, dancing and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees. Mary Lou and Bill also enjoyed road trips with their close friends, Tony and Linda. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her loving husband, and best friend of 62 years, William Remillard; six children, Ricky (Veronica) Remillard of Sharon Springs, NY, Donna (Randy) Karl of Rotterdam Junction, NY, William Remillard and his fiancé Judy Cosentino of Amsterdam, NY, Mary Lou Coppolo (Tom Marnell) of Amsterdam, NY, Lisa (Joseph) Farina of Niskayuna, NY, Jeffery (Bea) Remillard of Rotterdam, NY; sixteen grandchildren, David, Jason, Renee, Beth, Erica, Tommy, Colleen, Billy, Joshua, Lindsay, Jenna, Brenna, Lauren, Emma, Lacey, Austin; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother John (Kathy) Simonds of Pattersonville, NY; sister-in-law, Joan Simonds of Pattersonville, NY; her beloved cat Minnie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her siblings Glenn “Bud” Simonds and Darlene Beer; and her son-in-law, Patrick Coppolo.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 2p.m. at the Woestina Reformed Church, 1397 Main Street, Rotterdam Junction, NY with the Rev. Kent McHeard presiding. Burial will take place at a later date in the Woestina Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
