Obituary of James W. McGrattan

James W. "Jimbo" McGrattan, age 61, of Gloversville, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.

 

He was born April 2, 1958 in Schenectady, the son of Cyril and Elizabeth MacFarlane McGrattan. He was employed for 31 years with New York State OCFS. He was a soccer, basketball and softball referee for girl's high school for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and golf.

 

Jimbo will be greatly missed, and leaves many treasured memories with those who survive him, including his four children, Melissa Tonn,  Bill Tonn (Natasha),  Jamie McGrattan, and Kyle McGrattan; three siblings, Stephanie Hathaway (James),  Leo McGrattan (Mary)  and Edward McGrattan (Barb); two step-sisters,  Barbara Johnson  and Gail Andrews; four grandchildren, Ava Morehouse,  Xander Wilson,  Avery Tonn and McKenna Tonn; mother-in-law Barbara Edel; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

He was married on Sept. 29, 1990 to Susan Edel Tonn McGrattan, having shared 24 years together until her passing in January 2015. He was also predeceased by his father, Cyril McGrattan; his mother, Elizabeth MacFarlane McGrattan Zayicek and his stepfather, Stanley Zayicek.

 

The family will receive relatives and friends from 11am to 1pm Friday, January 17, 2020 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville where a Funeral Service will follow at 1:00PM with Barbara Frederick officiating.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005.
