My condolences to all of Skip's family. Skip's life work will never be forgotten. He has helped save much of the Mohawk valley's history. Not only by saving the material culture of the region but the stories behind them. I and thankful and grateful for having known him for so many decades. Skip once told me that having all the stuff in the world, is not as valuable as having good friends.
All I can say is Thank you Skip Barshied, I will miss you very much .

As the Town of Minden Historian, I had the pleasure of meeting Skip. He did not know me from a barrel of apples, but trusted me enough to invite me into his home to tour his collections and even offered to loan me some items. He also gave me some items pertaining to my area as he thought I would enjoy them. Always had a story to go along with something . A very nice and sincere gentleman who will be missed greatly. Skip's life story does not mention that he was an avid member of both the Hudson Mohawk Tools & Trades Association as well as the Early American Industries Association .. These groups are dedicated to the preservation of tools, crafts and trades in American history.
We met Skip many years ago at EAIA meetings & found that we had much in common. Our friendship grew after we relocated from Staten Island NY to the Albany NY area. Not only did we get to spend more time together but helped Skip host several successful tool group regional meetings at his Kilts Farm..
We will miss him very much.

I had the great honor of meeting Skip in 2016 at Fort Klock. His knowledge of the history of the area and his enthusiasm for sharing that with me was a highlight of my visit to the area. The Mohawk Valley has lost a treasure.
