I like to think Mr. and Mrs. DeRose are looking down on us as they hold hands and smile at all the love they left behind. They were a superb couple on Earth and Heaven is lucky to have them now. I feel blessed to have had them be such an important part of my life. It wasn't until I grew older that I realized she was the rock supporting the creativity..........

Your mom was a wonderful teacher. As a child, I believe she taught me piano for two years. She had to stop for awhile because she became pregnant with one of you. Sad story I didn’t go back- just wanted her. Hold on to the memories. Sending love and blessings.

Michele, Marty, Matt and family,
Our sincerest condolences on the passing of your mother. She was such a beautiful person, inside and out. Being involved with Bert since my high school years and beyond, I had many opportunities to meet with Barbara whether it was through the theater productions, church or through our children. She was truly an inspiration to many, a quiet but memorable woman. We hope that all of the good memories you hold in your heart will be of some comfort to you during this difficult time. During a last century tribute to Bert, I checked with Barbara to see if a planned gag would go over as intended. When she said to go ahead, I coordinated with several of the participants, including Art Hoefs of the Recorder. During the speech, I spoke of the Marty Awards, named, of course, after (then) young Marty DeRose. Prepping Bert for the usual applause, I asked for "the father of Marty DeRose" to please stand up. Bert stood and watched as one or two of the men also stood. Then another one, And another one. And finally Art Hoefs. Bert realized the gag and immediately looked to Barbara for her reaction. And she was laughing, having kept the joke with no hint of being in on it.
When you hear the music of Richard Rodgers, you immediately sing the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein.
When you think of Bert, you immediately think, as did he always, of Barbara.
