Hello Jim! I don't know if anyone posts things so long after their loss? Maybe one out of that huge batch of kids you've been blessed with will forward this along.. Please if you would-'kids'? Thank you! I am sorry to see Lucille went on first im sure you know you will see her again. Though we only shared one day here or there on weekends where I remember that path down to the river past an old garage on the right I think with grass and weeds brushing underneath the car growing higher a the summers continued each year. It was frightful when I was just a little guy, seems I was always the youngest there? But .. What a thrill hanging on to my dad's back showing me how to swim! I loved to go underwater deeper hanging onto him, ever trusting knowing hed go back up when I gave him 'the signal' Eventually mastered the doggy paddle.. Every Thanksgiving deer hunting.. I didnt get one until my first drawn hunt out here East of Kingman South of the Grand Canyon! I've always wanted to tell you something I found out around July 2000 the year before he died. Remember how you would see a nice buck head his (my dad Mike)s way? and I don't know, did he ever fire a shot even? I distinctly remember you coming over to him saying 'Mike! What were you doing? Sleeping? That was a nice one! What the heck!? I don't know if you can still find ut but for the Bicentennial, the Leader-Herold each month or so published the biggest news stories for each decade. He was a hero of sorts in 1939 one of the biggest for 1930s, Well he never told anyone but he saved his Mother a single parent taken in by the Salak family as a Ukrainian only speaking immigrant after shed survived a gunshot in her head standing in a field with my dad in her arms!! Never told us that one either! He grew up with them all, you may remember my Godfather uncle George? They were same ages and joined the Army under brother or buddy plan serving out here in Tucson AZ. But just before that I guess the previous farm manager and ex-boyfriend to Mrs Salak the owner had gotten fired-dumped and the spiteful basted bought the property next door and continued to provoke them! He even got into probably the first case of "Road Rage" in Broadalbin? Ramming my dad or braking so dad Mike would rear end him.. My dad got the ticket in any case for driving without a license. That was a week before the buy Bartowski or something like that came into farm house while everyone was asleep with a shotgun and a huge knife. Killing her relatives sleeping in room he thought she was in, reloading going room to room eventually killing her and my dad armed with only a small stepladder knocked away the shotgun but still managed to stab my grandmother..poor thing ..she survived Stalin (who killed and starved around 41million Ukrainian s(though all we hear about is Hitler!, WTF!) She again survived after my dad beat and pulled the killer away, Mike was quoted in newspaper "Now see what you've done" at top of stairway before beating the guy with empty gun and having knocked the knife out of his hand!, proceeded to knock him all the way down the stairs. Then as he began to save his bleeding mother he sees the ass___ has lit the barn withi all the animals inside ablaze for the largest fire ever in Fulton County! Seen all the way from Albany area with huge crowd ever assembled. Mike ran into that fire and not a single animal was killed! Then my Aunt Jeannie Salak explained how reporter got the story wrong about the guy attempting suicide near fence to his own property. She said the truth was that the SOB was so F ing scared of my dad chasing him with the stepladder he got caught in the barbed wire and shot himself in the leg while trying to shoot my Dad! My neighbor asked him Why he never told anyone? He said because he didn't want me to find out because he got ticket for no license as I'd been caught and punished for on my dirtbike! Hahaha!
Oh Jim, I'm not sure which daughter is a nurse? But she told me how at er my dad suffered the stroke and was paralized and couldn't swallow properly I think they delayed the therapy too long and was too late(a F-ing insurance approval delay!) She was totally shocked when Mike recognized her addressing her by her name, knowing her married name and asked toucher husband and each of her kids each by name. He had not seen them for years she told me. Call me, text or write, my sister Diane can give you my contact information call her at 518-843-3366.
Anyway I think my dad saw enough killing in his life and loved animals too much to shoot them! Wouldnt you agree? I wish you and all the kids well and any to call me or Dianectoo!my cousin Dean Salak died 9/11/2020, he was my age, thatsvwhyci was looking here I guess that's what we do as we get older?
Be well Jim Ivan see that smile of yours and hear your boy an Lucilles voices if I concentrate. I f I don't see you here see you in " The Happy Hunting Grounds" ill be looking for you when time comes I love you and alkcyour family! Thank you alive or sharing withcnecand my family all of you are the best vjob well done man?love Wayne Rozdolski

My heart goes out to the Douglass family.
I always smiled and waved when I would see Mr. and Mrs Douglass out for their walk together.
