Obituary of Richard Everett Palmateer

Richard “Dick” E. Palmateer of Gloversville passed away on Tuesday December 10, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born on May 23, 1937 in Gloversville, the son of the late Everett Palmateer and Katherine (Wood) Palmateer. On October 29th, 1961 Dick married his wife Carol Huptick. The two just recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Dick worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant in the 1960s. He then went on to own and operate “Upstate Shellfish” from 1966 to 1978. He also worked in the leather industry, from which he’d later retire. Dick had no shortage of hobbies. In the 1970s, he was regarded as one of the best pitchers in the Fastpitch A division at Meco Softball Park. He was an avid pitch player and enjoyed playing the game with his friends. When he wasn’t striking out batters or dealing hands, he could be found hunting or fishing, running his beagles at the Adirondack Beagle Club, or bowling in various local leagues. When it was time to relax, he would bring his Stewart’s coffee to Wohlfarth’s Pond and enjoy the view with his dogs Meadow and Bo.

Most important to Dick was supporting his children and grandchildren. He and his wife could always be found cheering for them at graduations and sporting events, from early morning gymnastics meets to volleyball matches to late-night baseball games. He also coached baseball for three years at Gloversville Little League in the 1970s.

He leaves behind his wife Carol, his son Greg, and his daughter Lori (John) Stewart. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Dustin and Casey Palmateer (fiancé Derek Harris), Tanner and Cameron Stewart, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to both of his parents, Dick was pre-deceased by his sister Sandra Walther and his granddaughter Allison Palmateer.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services at this time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local animal shelter or humane society or your choice in Dick’s name.
