Please accept my condolences for your present sorrow. I know that your memories of this loving man will bring you comfort forever. The Drama Club was the biggest part of my life in high school, that means Mr. DeRose figured large in my life. He was an honorable and gifted man who knew how to bring out the best in us. I always smile when I remember him.

I just want to express my condolences for the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. I have a distinct memory of Mr. DeRose from being in the pit orchestra. I played 1st violin and looked forward to his portrayal of Fagan in Oliver!! He was a brilliant actor and a wonderful person. I even remember Marty as the fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof! My deepest condolences.
You all must be very proud of him. As he was of all of you! If I were in the area today I would have been there. But I now live
in Newburyport Massachusetts. Rochelle (Winslow) Malionek

My Deepest Sympathy to The Family of Mr. DeRose,
Thank you for sharing him with so many of us. Bert's passion for theatre was contagious. As he shared his passion with us, he gave us a safe place in which to experience the world and explore our "roles" in it.
Thank you, Mr. D.
Your Alice,

From Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN, one of Bert's favorite scripts:
EMILY: Oh Earth, you're too wonderful for anyone to realize you.
And ...
EMILY: Does anyone ever realize life while they live it ... every, every minute?
STAGE MANAGER: Saints and poets maybe ... they do some.
We saw how much Bert realized and shared his vision.
Thank you, sir.

We are so sorry for your great loss. It is with a very heavy heart that we say goodbye to such a loving and caring human being. There is no doubt there is a special place in Heaven for this great man. He nurtured many of us over the year and always kept up his friendship over the years. To say he was a special instructor, mentor, boss, co-worker, friend and many more words too numerous to mention, cannot begin to describe this great man. He was such a big part of many lives. Bert loved what he did and passed his legacy on to many who, in some small way, give great tribute to what he instilled in us. Thank you, Bert, for all you have done and for what you will continue to do in the company of our Lord. May you rest in peace and may God hold you in the palm of HIs hand. You will remain a light in our hearts forever, and may the many memories of the past be a comfort to your family during this difficult time.

It was the summer of 1957 when I first worked with Bert in a, forgive us, minstrel show! He had the confidence to cast a wet-behind the ears youth to be an end man with adults. That began a friendship that has carried forth through years. He recognized a young boy struggling to find his place in the world and in himself. He took him fishing, (never caught anything) and was the driving force that convinced his parents he should go to college. 62 years later, I honor him along with many others who benefitted from his love and belief that they could be amazing! We carry him with us? “He was my friend, honest and true.” Rest, my friend!

How does one express the love and loss of someone who changed so many lives? I am grateful to Mr. D for so much including my lifelong participation in dance, theater and film. I am so happy to have had him in my life, and to share time with him every summer, these past 30 odd years. The tribute this summer being a most wonderful and appreciated event to add to my memories. Matt, Johanna & DeRose Family,
I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was the consummate educator who was kind, nurturing and stern when he needed to be. He truly listened when you spoke to him and he always gave you the feeling that you mattered. They don't make them too much like that anymore. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Bert was a wonderful guy and a really fun teacher. He always had time for those of us that had issues in High School. I was a troubled kid in High School and always in trouble of some kind. Some how he would know when I did something wrong or totally stupid and he would reach out to me and just be a super adult friend. I owe a lot to Bert but if there is a heaven, and I believe there is, he is catching up with all his old family members, friends, students, and working on a really neat musical that everyone will enjoy. God Bless Bert and his family.

From the Family of Michael Lynch, I just want to give my condolences to the family of Bert, he was a truly special man. He adored my Uncle Michael Lynch. Helped him excel in the drama program, then helped him get into college before he left for Vietnam. My dad told me that Bert even named his daughter after my Uncle Mike which is truly one of the kindest things. Then named the Lynch Middle School auditorium after my Uncle Mike. I know they will have a lot to catch up on in heaven! Rest In Peace Bert.
