Obituary of Donald F. Strathaus

Donald F. Strathaus, age 87, of Gloversville, passed away Wednesday,  October 2, 2019 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville, with his loving wife by his side.

He was born April 29, 1932 in Gloversville, the son of the late Fritz and Irna Barncoff Strathaus. He was a 1951 graduate of Gloversville High School and later served in the US Army. Following his service to his country he graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1959.  He was later employed as an Industrial Arts and Driver's Education Teacher by the Gloversville Enlarged School District for 28 years until his retirement. Don was well-known in the community as their favorite teacher.

With their love of traveling, Don and Helen spent the last 15 winters in Myrtle Beach. He loved baseball and slow-pitch softball and was an avid New York Mets fan. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf and polishing his Cadillac. He was a member of the Concordia Club.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years,  Helen C. Barthe Strathaus; sisters-in-law, Clara Albanese, Charlotte Young and Joan Richards; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A private service will take place at the convenience of the family at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.

Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
