Obituary of James G. Lent
Mr. James G. “Jim” Lent, 75, of Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly on Friday September 13, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Binghamton, NY on February 22, 1944, a son of the late George (Barbara) Lent and Mary Shine Lent.
Jim was raised in Binghamton and Schenectady and was a Graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School in 1962.
He came to this area and resided in Hagaman for most of his life.
He was employed for UPS for over 32 years retiring in 2001. He worked as a Truck Driver and various positions within the company.
Mr. Lent was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and Notre Dame. Jim was always visiting with his friends and acquaintances anytime he left the house. Everyone knew him and he would always take time out to chat with all. He would always make people smile with his little jokes and one liners he would share. Jim’s family was always first and he would never miss any of his grandchildren’s games or school functions.
He married Sharyn “Sherry” Horton Lent on November 29, 1969. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his children, James M. Lent and his wife Angel of Malta, NY, Macayla A. Smith and Darwyn Dery of Mayfield, NY and Christopher J. Lent of Amsterdam. Cherished grandchildren, L. David Dery, Brandon S. Smith, Shanleigh Cionek, Danny Cionek JR. and Christopher Lent II. One great-grandson, Conner Lewis Larimore. Siblings, Patricia (Nelson) Mitchell and Mary Ellen Lent of Poughkeepsie, NY, John Lent, Claire (Bill) Goodreau, Richard Lent and Betty Jean Lent all of Schenectady, NY. Mother-in-law, Doris Horton of Amsterdam, Sister-in-law, Janet DeMaria and brother-in-law, Larry Horton both of Amsterdam, Son-in-law, Dan Cionek of Broadalbin, NY and Brother-in-law, George Mare`of Schenectady, NY, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents Jim was predeceased by his beloved daughter Megan J. Cionek on April 4, 2014. He was also predeceased by his sister, Cathy J. Mare` on July 4, 2018 and father-in-law, Harold Horton on April 18, 2010.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00PM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
