Obituary of Melvin J. Oliver, Jr.

Melvin J. Oliver Jr. of Glen, New York, passed away Tuesday September 3, 2019 at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife Annette, his children Dianna Duran, Suzanne Skelton, William Oliver, Tricia Montanye, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Hilda Oliver and his sister Joyce Oliver Bender.

Melvin had assorted occupations in his lifetime including logging and OTR truck driver but spent much of his years working for the City of Schenectady. He had many stories of the challenges of snow emergencies and the even/odd parking rotation on the city streets.  He retired from the city with 20+ dedicated years.

Melvin was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a man of little words but when he spoke he always seemed to have exactly the right thing to say. He loved to dance, play guitar and could do a good rendition of any Hank Williams ballad. In his later years, he and Annette discovered a passion for RVing. They traveled as often as they could, visiting family and exploring many locations in the US.  The relationship that he had with Annette was inspiring.  It was obvious to all that they were soul mates.   He was hard working, dedicated and definitely a family man.  He will be deeply missed.
