Obituary of Joseph L. Reynolds
Joseph L. Reynolds , 87, of Amsterdam, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, August 28, 2019 at his home.
Born in Ilion, NY on February 12, 1932 a son of the late Joseph L. and Borgia Mae Farrell Reynolds. He was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Amsterdam Schools.
Mr. Reynolds was employed by Collette Manufacturing in Amsterdam, G.E. in Schenectady, General Dynamics, Johnstown Leather, Amsterdam Printing and Litho Co. and NY State Dept. of Tax and Finance.
Joe was very involved in the community. He coached Wee Men Baseball and Prep League Baseball in Amsterdam. He enjoyed playing Darts in the City Dart League for Lanzi's. He also enjoyed bowling and scored a 300 game while Bowling in the city “Woodchoppers League”. He was an avid Hunter and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. Mr. Reynolds most recent passion was attending Amsterdam Mohawks Games. He was present at the recent championship that the Mohawks won this year.
Joe was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Church in Amsterdam and currently Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He was very active in the churches and helped at the church Festas and Spaghetti Suppers over the years. He was a member of the Bigelow Weavers in Amsterdam and the Mt. Carmel Seniors enjoying many trips and activities.
He married Ann L. Kosiba Reynolds on April 19, 1952. In addition to his loving wife survivors include a daughter, Debbie and her husband Jim Minch of Amsterdam. Two sons, Joseph L. and Eileen Reynolds III of Amsterdam and Brian (Teri) Reynolds of Amsterdam. Two sisters, Shirley Williams and Audrey (Willard) Nethaway both of Schenectady. Five cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Sawicki, Kimberly Prosser, Malinda Reynolds, Katherine C. Aguilara, and Kayla Reynolds. Ten great-grandchildren, brother and sister-In-laws, Sandy and David Blodgett and Nancy Miller. Nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, George Reynolds and a sister, Barbara Crawford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 31, 2019 at 11:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam with Father Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. A prayer service will be held on Saturday at 10:15 AM prior to the Funeral Mass at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday August 30, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church or to a charity of one's choice.
