Obituary of Dr. Elizabeth M. Banta

      Dr. Elizabeth M. Banta , 83, of Watertown , Massachusetts, formerly of Amsterdam, NY,   passed away Monday August 5, 2019 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA,  following a brief illness.

     Born in Hagaman, NY on September 23, 1935,  a daughter of the late Francis  and Margaret  (McConchie ) Banta. 

     Dr. Banta attended Amsterdam schools and was a Graduate of Boston University in Massachusetts.  She received her Doctorate and was educated in communications for the hearing impaired.  She traveled the world because of her career and her communications skills with the deaf.  While she traveled she was able to bring her mother along.  This truly was a joy in her life. 

     Dr. Banta was the Director of the Department of Case Management and Social Services for the State of Massachusetts. She was  at the Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Boston, MA.      

     She is survived by her brother, Charles F. (Linda) Banta, of Pensacola, Florida.  Nephews, James D. Banta of Watertown, MA, Richard W.(Vanessa)Banta of Amsterdam, NY and Ronald S.(Lori) Banta of Colorado Springs, CO.    

     Funeral services will be held on Monday August 12, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY with Elizabeth’s nephew, Rev. Ronald S. Banta, presiding.  Interment will follow in Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday prior to the funeral service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place,  Memphis, TN 38105.
