Obituary of Thomas S. Doane, Jr.
After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Thomas Stephen Doane, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on August 3rd, 2019, at Albany Med. Thomas was a day shy of his 66th birthday. Even in his final months, Thomas remained brave and always put others first.
Thomas was born on August 4th, 1953, in New York City to father, Thomas S. Doane, USAF Lt. Col, and mother Twila E. Doane who predeceased him. Thomas was also predeceased by his sister, Heather Doane Grey, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Thomas is survived by his loving brother, Allen Doane Sr. (Karen), nieces: Lovell Doane and Alanna Powers (Thom), and nephew Allen Doane Jr. (Katie) as well as great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many lifelong friends: including Delos Kennicutt, Mike Kaminski, Mike Dake and Tim Miller.
After moving around a lot as a child, Thomas settled in Gloversville, NY and then spent the past 30 years in Amsterdam, NY. Thomas spent many years working at The Top Notch Tavern and Raindancer Restaurant. He also started a painting business, Tom Doane Painting. While not working, Thomas enjoyed being on the golf course with his great buddies. He was an avid fan of Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. Thomas will be remembered for his big heart and generosity to those around him.
Thomas has requested to be cremated. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11am Wednesday, August 7 at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 37 Division St; Amsterdam, where a Memorial Service will follow at 11am with the Rev. Neal P. Longe officiating.
His family would especially like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, especially his respiratory therapists Jan and Chris, and the wonderful staff at Roswell Park, Buffalo, and Albany Medical Center.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
