Obituary of James John Galletta
James John Galletta, 72, of Amsterdam, NY, has gone to his eternal rest on Monday, July 8th, 2019.
Born on June 1st, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Peter and Irene (Bonacum) Galletta. James graduated from Brentwood High School in Long Island, N.Y., Class of 1965. A true hero, James bravely enlisted into the United States Navy in September of 1965 and proudly defended our country during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge in September of 1971. On May 22nd, 1993 he married Christa Huppelsberg.
James had a wide variety of interests and hobbies that ranged from his love of fishing, camping, and gardening, to playing chess; but there was nothing he loved more than being in the company of his family. He was an amazing storyteller and jokester, who was outgoing, loving, and caring. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy cherished by his family and close friends.
James is survived by his loving wife Christa; his children; Jason James (Jennifer) Galletta, Melissa (Thomas) Magby, Diana (Jorge Palacios) Olsey, Amanda (Andrew) Arndt, Jessica (Seth) Cox, William (Marchetta) Sponaas, Michelle Sponaas, and Jason Scott (Katherine) Sponaas; his sisters, Carolyn Salzwedel, Theresa (Herb) Hunt, Irene Rodriguez, Mary (Eric) Hall, and Kathleen (Joseph) Scotto; his brother, David (Laura) Galletta; 25 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Many more loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends also survive. James is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Irene Galletta, his sister Marian Mahr; and three brothers, Peter, Stephen, and Charlie Galletta.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 12th, 2019 at 10am at Betz, Rossi, & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. The family will receive visitors from 9am to 10am at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871 With Military Honors.
