Obituary of Henry Ross

Henry “Hank” Ross Sr., 91, of Amsterdam passed away on Monday July 8, 2019 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Hank was born November 7, 1927 to the late Wilhelmina Welke Ross and Henry Ross. A lifelong area resident, he attended and graduated from Amsterdam High School as Valedictorian of his class. He worked at GE, then was a Sheet rocker for the Local Carpenters Union for a many years. He and his wife Jackey started Ross' Bait Shop in 1967.  They continued to be owner/operator of Ross' Bait shop for over 50 years.  As part of his love for the business, Hank caught and supplied the bait fish for his own and many other local bait shops. Hank was united in marriage to Ms. Jackey Hammond, they remained lovingly married until her passing in 1990.

In addition to his wife, Hank was preceded in death by his sister Rosemary Dmyszewicz, brother Walter Ross,  daughter Sandy VanDeusen, grandchildren Dallas Nicole Sperow, Henry Ross III.

He is survived by his son Henry “Beaver” (Maria) Ross of Mayfield, daughters Cindi J. Ross of Amsterdam, Mindy J. Ross of Amsterdam, Penny J. Ross (JR Metz) of Hagaman, and Missy J. Ross (Razz Green) of Amsterdam, grandchildren (Michael, Jacki, Rosi, Patrick & Samantha) & 4 great grandchildren.

Hank was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish & trap. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Hank also enjoyed watching the NY Yankees & Golf especially his favorite Tiger Woods.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10am at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Ave Amsterdam, NY 12010. Following services burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to calling hours Friday, July 12, 2019 from 4pm to 8pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home. Donations in memory of Hank can be sent to Montgomery County Office of the Aging 135 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam NY 12010 (special thanks to "Kristina" for all the loving care she provided for dad) or Montgomery County Hospice.
