Obituary of Pedro Hernandez

Mr. Pedro Hernandez, 73, of Amsterdam, NY went peacefully into the presence of his Lord, at home, on June 20th, 2019 with his loving wife by his side. 

Pedro was born March 25th, 1946 in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. He was the son of the late Pedro Hernandez and Mariana Rivera. He was raised in Toa Alta, PR where he attended schools. He married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart Istar Ivette Calderón on December 20th, 1969.  In 1984 he moved to New Jersey with his family. He was a very hardworking man, always providing and caring for his family. His last job was held at Liz Claiborne, Inc. Secaucus, NJ for 16 years as a maintenance technician. In 2006, following the calling from God, he and his wife Istar founded and pastored Ministerio Esperanza in the City of Amsterdam for 7 years.

Pedro was a very skillful person, handyman, and a great cook. He had a great sense of humor and outlook on life.  He was admired, respected, and loved by this children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who saw him as a grandfather, many times their baby-sitter, and their “granpa-taxi.”  To know Pedro was to love him! He had a great love for music, particularly old hymns and enjoyed singing in church among family and friends.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife back to the Puerto Rico he so loved.

He is survived by his wife; his children: Mayra Ivelisse, Pedro Manuel (Natalia), Carlos Javier and Aida Rosa (Wilmer), also his grandchildren Stephanie Ivette, Marianne, Edwin David, Crystal Eileen, Victor Manuel, Gabrielle, Edwin Daniel, Mark Anthony, Christian Manuel, Luis Miguel and Grace Istar. A great host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws whom he loved also survive. He was preceded in death by his brother Rafael Hernandez.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday June 26th, 2019, from 4-7pm at Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A Service of remembrance will begin promptly at 4pm. A Funeral Ceremony will be held on June 27th at 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery, Steadwell Ave, Amsterdam, NY.
