Obituary of Antoinette Marie Jones

Mrs. Antoinette Marie Jones, 85, of Fonda, NY peacefully joined the Lord in Heaven on May 23, 2019 with her loving family by her side.  Born on January 31, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Lucy Romano.

A lifelong area resident, Antoinette graduated from Fonda- Fultonville High School.  After completing business school, she was employed as an Executive Secretary for General Electric in Schenectady.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, LaVerne Jones Sr., who she married on May 22, 1955; two sons, LaVerne Jones Jr. (Jill Jones) and Ben Jones of Fonda, NY; her daughter, Patricia Hladik and her husband George of Gloversville, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Lee; and her siblings, Anthony, Louie, Ralph, Frances and Angelina.

Antoinette and her husband LaVerne began their family dairy farm in 1964 which remains in operation today.  She was a devoted member of the Town of Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, serving as President.   She leaves behind her legacy of creative poem writing which she would share with family and friends at various functions.  She was especially proud of the poems she bestowed upon the unsuspecting (yet pleasantly surprised) firefighters of the Town of Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department.

Throughout her lifetime, Antoinette touched so many people in her lifetime and “adopted” many as their mom or grandma.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, including her furry companions Abby, Jackie, Molly, Fred, Squeak, Rascal and Lucy.

Antoinette was an extremely fortunate recipient of the best care from Mountain Valley Hospice, the loving nurses and medical staff of Nathan Littauer Hospital of Gloversville and Dr. Hassam of Johnstown.

A Service of Remembrance will take place on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11a.m. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Mountain Valley Hospice.  Please visit the online memorial at www.brbsfuneral.com
