Obituary of Susan King Fisher VanNostrand
Susan King Fisher VanNostrand of Gloversville, NY passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 64 on May 22nd after a 25-year tenaciously-fought battle with breast cancer. Her strength, courage and fortitude throughout the course of her fight will always remain a source of deep admiration and inspiration to her family.
Susan did not allow the disease with which she was struck to steal away the time she had. She did not use it as a crutch and she never bowed down to it. Instead, each time it came back to fight another round, Susan left it staggering back to its corner with a black eye while she stood with fist raised in defiance. Even as her body tired from years of relentless fighting, she did not concede. She swung hard at her adversary until her last breath.
Instead of allowing the disease to dictate her life, Susan lived the life she chose each day – taking in every moment as it happened and making it her own. It is the wish of her family that all who read this and all who knew and loved her will remember to do exactly the same with the time they have been given. Life is not long, no matter the years each of us has – remember to experience yours as she did.
Susan was born on June 19, 1954 to the late William and Adaline King. She graduated from Mayfield High School in 1972. In October 1973 she married her first husband, Joel Fisher who passed away in November 2000. Together with Joel, Susan owned and operated Kenney’s Boats and Motors for many years prior to her retirement. In January 2005, Susan was married to Eugene VanNostrand of Gloversville, who was at her side as she passed away along with her daughter Jaime Fisher Corwin.
Additional surviving family members include son-in-law Jeremy Corwin of Hopkinton, NH, step-daughter Jessica and son-in-law Jaime Rodriguez of Gloversville, grandchildren Kiera Corwin, Darion Rodriguez and Dezton Rodriguez, brothers James (Joy) King of Palm Bay, Florida, Todd (Eileen) King of Palm Bay, Florida, and Douglas (Diane) King of Gloversville as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
