Obituary of Mafalda M. Marsicano

Mrs. Mafalda M. Marsicano, 85, of Edson Street, Amsterdam died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 27, 2019.  Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 12, 1934, she was the last living child of the late Angelo and Louisa DePasquale Constantino.

A lifelong area resident, Mafalda attended city schools and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.  She was employed at Grand Union, Acme Markets, and lastly, the Meals for the Elderly of Amsterdam, retiring in 1997.

On June 6, 1955 she was united in marriage to Gennaro M. Marsicano.  That union lasted 49 years until his untimely passing on December 25, 2004. She was also predeceased by her son, Gennaro Michael Marsicano, Jr. on August 30, 1968; and all of her siblings, John, Peter, Catherine, Josephine, Helen, Carmella and Yolanda.

Mafalda was a member of the former St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church and of the Amsterdam Lioness Club.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and was an accomplished oil painter.  Mafalda also took great pride in her home and her vegetable and flowers gardens.  Most of all, she enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Rosemarie Peugh and her husband Phillip of Amsterdam, NY and Louis J. Marsicano of Little Falls, NY; two granddaughters, Kelly Anne Forte and her husband Timothy of Amsterdam, NY and Kimberly Louise Meyer and her husband Eric of Hagaman, NY; four great grandchildren, Alexandra and Victoria Forte and Mason and Benjamin Meyer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 11a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50-52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.  Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
