Obituary of Sam Petrecky
Mr. Samuel E. Petrecky, 67, of Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday April 9, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born in Colonie, NY on February 29, 1952 a son of the late Samuel and Florence Johnson Petrecky.
Sam went to Parris Island, S.C. Marine Corps Boot Camp in 1971. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve for several years. He was a true Patriot.
He started his career in the early 1970's delivering for the Freihofer’s Baking Company, gaining a reputation around the area as "Sam Sam the Pie Man." He later followed his passion for Photography and opened "Starlite Photography" in Amsterdam in the early 1980's. Sam likely photographed every youngster that played Amsterdam Little Giants Football, Wee Men Baseball and youth soccer. He was truly an expert at capturing the perfect moments of thousands of weddings in the area. He photographed almost every Bishop Scully High School and AHS Football Game, senior pictures and proms through the 80’s and 90’s. .
In the mid 90's Sam began driving limousine and brought many people to NYC, Saratoga and sporting events always with a smile.
Mr. Petrecky was at one time a member of the Amsterdam Rotary Club.
Sam is survived by his children, Sam (Lalana) Petrecky of San Francsico, CA. Nicole Baker of Sanford, Florida, Kristin (Stephen) Pasquarelli of Amsterdam, NY. Four cherished grandchildren, Noah and Olivia Baker, Massimo Pasquarelli and Avaline Petrecky. One brother, Rich Petrecky and three sisters, Donna Rogers, Sandy Kennedy and Mary Center. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Sunday April 14, 2019 at 4:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday prior to the celebration of life from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
