Obituary of Marguerite Josephine Horning

Mrs. Marguerite J. (DeSorbo) Horning, 77, passed away on April 4, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Marguerite was born on February 3, 1942 in Amsterdam, NY to the late Louis and Philomena DeSorbo. She attended local schools graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, a member of the class of 1960, she went on to work at Leathers by Impulse for a short time before beginning at Walmart in Amsterdam where she worked for over 25 years as Department Manager until her retirement in September of 2012.

Marguerite was united in marriage to Thomas E. Horning on May 18, 1985. They remained lovingly married until his passing in 2009.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter Philomena (Russell) Williams of Fonda, Son Douglas (Susan) Lee Jr of Broadalbin, brothers Louis DeSorbo Jr, and Stephen DeSorbo and sister Pauline Trudel. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren; Kandace (Patrick) Rose, René Rando, Ryan Lee, Alyssa Lee, and Braxton Williams, great grandchildren; Kohen, Addisyn and Elizabeth. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Horning and brother Donald DeSorbo.

Marguerite was a communicant of St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church and later Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church. She was a hard worker who enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking Italian dishes, and having fun at the casino.

The Family of Marguerite would like to thank the staff of Maria Hall at St. Mary’s Healthcare as well as Pineview Commons for their care, kindness, and warmth.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home at 6p.m., family and friends are invited to call on Monday April 8, 2019 from 4p.m. to 6p.m. prior to the service. A private burial will take place at St. Michael’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marguerite’s memory to American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 2478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
