Obituary of Jose Antonio Carrero

Jose Antonio Carrero Sr., 67, of Amsterdam, N.Y., has gone to his eternal rest on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019. With his loving family and close friends by his side. 

Born on February 26th, 1952 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Juan Antonio Carrero and Christina Valentin. Jose spent time as a pro boxer achieving 14 proud victories before moving to the area with his family in 1969. He was the proud owner and operator of the Spanish Paradise. A small grocery store that was once formally located on East Main St. in Amsterdam. Cooking was one of Jose’s true passions. He took great pride and loved knowing that his cooking would make others happy. He enjoyed listening to music and taking walks to stay fit. He loved traveling to NYC and Coney Island with his family; never passing up the opportunity to eat at a cuchifrito or Yankees Pizza during those trips. Jose loved having cookouts and attending family gatherings. He truly was a loving father and grandfather. He loved to crack jokes and had an incredible sense of humor. The love and adoration of his children meant the world to him. His legacy will be remembered and cherished by all who were blessed to have known and loved him. 

Jose is survived by his children, Jose A. Carrero, Steven A. Carrero, Lissette Carrero, Jacquelyn Figueroa, and Veronica Carrero; his grandchildren, Carlos, Lijuan, Juantrice, Destiny A.K.A Joseph, Gabriel, Nyjah, Jose III, Antonio, Mariah, Devin, Derek, and Jadiel; his sisters, Isabelle Torres, and Milagros Carrero; and his close friend, Yaritza Gonzalez. Many more loving close family and friends also survive. Jose is predeceased by his son Juan “Ponco” Carrero; his parents, Juan and Christina; and his brothers, Carlos, Miguel, Efrain, Rafael, and Luis Carrero.
