James Mathias

Obituary of James Edward Mathias

On Thursday, January 10, 2019, the Lord in his infinite wisdom called home from labor to reward, My Daddy, James (Jimmy) Mathias. He was the eldest son of the late John and Rena Hall Mathias. He was predeceased by Brother Scott and Sister Cindy Mathias. He spent his final days resting peacefully at the Mountain Valley Hospice Home in Gloversville, NY surrounded by family.

Jimmy graduated from the Gloversville school district, and went on to take college classes at Tennessee State University on a football scholarship.  He worked for Metro Car dealership as a car salesman and BBL construction company as a construction worker. He also played for the Albany Metro Maller’s football team as a running back for several years.  Jimmy also worked as a security guard at several local entertainment venues in the capital district.

Jimmy was a man very devoted and protective of his family. They were a source of deep joy to him. His grandchildren, who called him “Grandpa” known him as a kind-hearted playmate whose infectious laugh brightened their lives and dried their tears. He loved to playfully tease his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends. Those who know him reveled in his strength and no nonsense approach to every situation and witty nature.

Jimmy was a son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle whose love was unconditional. Jimmy’s laugh and contagious personality will be remembered by all forever. He brought joy and fun to every room he entered. He was an avid NY Giants fan, who loved dancing, listening to jazz and Earth, Wind and Fire. He was also known for his famous “fanny pack” everywhere he went and well as his funny stories.

Jimmy was a proud father, who cherished and taught his children to follow in his examples of kindness and respect towards others as well as to continue the traditions of family values.

Jimmy leaves to cherish in his memory, children, T’ierra and Anthony Mathias and Michelle Cronin; grandchildren, Shann, Savion and Joziah; siblings, Richard(Margie)of TX, Vanita of MD, Daniel(Gloria) of MS, Regina Johnson of FL, Randy(Evalyn) of Gloversville, Nadine Mathias-Thomas(Sherwin) of Gloversville; Kayla Braman(loving companion) and best bud Roman; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Also would like to say thank you to Mr. Abraham as you were truly his “best friend” and all the Naif family; and thank you to the Mountain Valley Hospice Home of Gloversville for the kind and caring support that was given to my Dad during this time.

WRITTEN IN PROFOUND SORROW by his loving daughter T’ierra
