Obituary of Diane M. Byrns
Diane M. Byrns, age 76, of Johnstown, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Fairfield, CT.
She was born December 3, 1942 as the youngest of eight children to Napoleon and Bertha Grenier of Barre, VT.
Diane attended Catholic schools graduating from Marion High School in 1960.
She married Daniel Byrns on February 2, 1963 and he predeceased her on September 21, 2003.
Diane was very involved in PTA at local and district levels being honored with a lifetime membership. She was Past President of the Early Risers Bowling League and Past President of Soroptimist International of Fulton County. She served on the old Johnstown YMCA Board. She enjoyed her cheerleading girls when she was Johnstown High School Cheerleading Coach for many years. She was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Church of Johnstown and St. Timothy’s of the Villages in Florida. She loved to play golf and enjoyed the girls at Pine Brook Golf Club. She loved to spend her winter months in Florida with friends and family.
She and Dan owned and operated Letter Memorial in Johnstown from 1974 until his passing in 2003.
Diane is survived by dear children, Todd Byrns (Trisha) of Gloversville and Kathy True (Matt) of Fairfield, CT. Her son Timothy Byrns of Clifton Park passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2018. She was so proud of her grandchildren who she enjoyed, Sydney Byrns of Clifton Park, Zachary and Aubrey Byrns of Gloversville and Ashlyn, Katie and Brady True of Fairfield, CT. She is also survived by Julie McAuley of Florida, Laurie Engel of Florida and Norman Grenier of Barre, VT.
In addition to her husband Daniel and son Timothy, Diane was predeceased by her parents and Roland and Lionel Grenier, Rejanne Parker and Mary Margaret Grenier.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 28 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 29 at Holy Trinity Church, 205 Glebe St; Johnstown. The Rev. Matthew Wetsel will be the celebrant.
Interment will take place 11:30am Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown where she will be laid to rest along with her son and join her husband.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave; Gloversville, NY 12078.
