Obituary of Mahlon Engle
Mr. Mahlon “Bud” Engle, 91, of Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday December 19, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsteradam.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 2, 1927 a son of the late Fred Simonds and Gladys Griffin Simonds. He was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and a 1946 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Mr. Engle worked for many years at Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam. He later worked as sexton at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Amsterdam for over 30 years.
Bud enjoyed playing handball and volleyball. He was proud of being the Waterfront Director of the YMCA Day Camp Chingachgook.
Survivors include his grandchildren, Rebecca Hadley of Charlton, NY, Renee Martin of Charlton, NY, Daniel Engle of Johnstown, NY and Michelle Miller of North Carolina. Great- grandchildren, Karianne, Ian and Allie Hadley, Carter Martin, Emma Frank, Dominic Engle, Brooke Miller and Adeline Engle. Cousins also survive.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Dorrie Engle on April 11, 2002 and a son, Thomas F. Engle on June 13, 2014. He also was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Engle, who was killed in action during World War II on December 18, 1944.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10 o’clock at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, 37 Division Street, Amsterdam with the Very Rev. Neal P. Longe officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday prior to the funeral beginning at 9:00AM at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
