Obituary of Carol L. Gros

Carol L. Gros, 72, of Main Street, Fort Plain, NY died suddenly on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Albany Medical Center.  Born on December 2, 1946 she was the daughter of the late Leland and Rita Moyer Gros.  She was 72 years old.

A lifelong area resident, Carol was a member of the first graduating class of Owen D. Young Central School in 1964.  She then went on to graduate from SUNY Cobleskill.  Carol worked at Niagara Mohawk in Cobleskill, Life Savers in Canajoharie until 1987, then finally, for over 30 years, Carol worked for the United States Postal Service retiring as Post Master of the Cherry Valley Post Office.

Committed to her community, Carol was a member and volunteer for several organizations throughout her life time.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Freysbush where she was treasurer and former Sunday School teacher and organist for 40 years.  Carol was also the treasurer of the Plain Food Co-Op and a dispatcher and EMT for the former Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 

Survivors include her two children, Brian D. Clapper and his wife Elizabeth (Rose) of Jamesville, NY and Carrie L. Phillips and her husband Robert Phillips of Canajoharie, NY; two siblings, Rita G. Parish and her husband Patrick of Batavia, NY and Richard L. Gros Sr. and his wife Bette of Ellington, CT; five grandchildren, Evangeline, Emily, Matthew, Abbey, Carolyn; and one great granddaughter Ariyah; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. David Johnson presiding.  Burial will follow in the Fort Plain Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held Saturday prior to the service beginning at 11a.m.
