Obituary of Alice J. Auriemma
Alice J. (Ratajczak) Auriemma, 90, of Amsterdam, NY has gone to her eternal rest on Thursday, November 22, 2018.
Born on November 12, 1928, in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Cecelia (Winkle) Ratajczak. She graduated in 1946 from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Alice married the love of her life, Victor Auriemma Sr., on June 27, 1948. They enjoyed a blessed and happy union that lasted 63 wonderful years until Victor's passing on July 27, 2011. During those years, Alice worked 25 years as a retail clerk for the former Grant Company, which later became the K-Mart Corporation, retiring in 1994. Alice was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam, NY. Together, Alice & Vic enjoyed many summers at the Saratoga Race Track, as well as taking trips to the Finger Lakes Race Track and Turning Stone Casino. Alice loved cooking for her family. She often made golumki's to go and made Wednesday night sauce and meatballs a family tradition. She was also an excellent baker whose apple pies and Italian cookies were enjoyed by her family and friends. Alice was an avid fan of the NY Yankees baseball and NY Giants football teams. She also later became a fan of the University of Conneticut women's basketball team.
Alice is survived by her daughter Pamela Ann Costello and her husband Robert and son Victor Auriemma Jr. and his wife Debra, all of Amsterdam, NY. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Alice was predeceased by four brothers Stanley Jr., Raymond, Robert and William Ratajczak. She was also predeceased by brother-in-laws John, Peter, Guido and Joseph Auriemma as well as sister-in-laws Ann, Betty, Joan and Mary Ratajczak and Mary, Jeanette, Betty and Antoinette Auriemma. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Alice will take place Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 1:30 pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010 with the Rev. Jeffrey L'Arche officiating. Internment will immediately follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Main Street, Fort Johnson, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38103 or The Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
