Obituary of Ruth Perrin Laird

Ruth Perrin Laird, 94, of Johnstown NY, formally of Baldwin Rd., Amsterdam, NY, has gone to her Eternal rest on Saturday, November 10th, 2018.

Born on March 26th, 1924 in North Brookfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Eugene Tucker and Jesse Gray Perrin. Ruth is a graduate of North Brookfield High School Class of 1942. In 1946 she graduated again, this time earning her bachelor's degree in education from Worcester State Teachers College in Worcester, MA. Not only did she find her career path there, she also met and married George David Laird. They shared 63 years together before his passing on January 12th, 2010. Teaching was Ruth's calling and passion. She dedicated most of her teaching years to the Greater Amsterdam School District, guiding and shaping young minds as a second grade teacher. When Ruth wasn't enjoying her time with her family or fulfilling her calling as a teacher, she enjoyed playing the piano and loved to sing in her beautiful soprano voice. She sang in several church choirs and was a former member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus. Ruth was a member of the Cranesville Reformed Church and the N.Y.S. Teachers Association.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Bruce D. (Peggy) Laird of Evergreen, CO, and Douglas A. (Joan) Laird of Los Gatos, CA; her daughter Carol A. (Steve) Sidlauskas of Amsterdam, NY; her seven grandchildren, Brennan, Kellen, Meghan, Stephen, Brian, Joanna, and Robbie; and her 7 great grandchildren, Susie, Owen, Olivia, Reed, Elana, Owen, and Quinn. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Ruth is predeceased by her husband George; her parents Stanley and Jessie Tucker, and her brothers, Waldo Tucker and Stanley Tucker.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the 2nd floor staff at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, NY for their special care and compassion during her time there.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, November 14th, 2018 at Betz, Rossi, & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, NY 12010. A Funeral Service for Ruth will take place at 10am on Thursday, November 15th, 2018, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service and take place at West Glenville Cemetery, 2171 West Glenville Rd, Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern NY, 3 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205.
