Obituary of Marion R. Harris
Mrs. Marion R. Harris, 92, of Currytown, New York died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, November 5, 2018. Born in New York City on June 28, 1926 she was the only child of the late Joseph and Marie Houska Rehurek who immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia in the early 1920’s. As a young child, Marion along with her family moved to the area and graduated from Cherry Valley High School in 1944. Upon graduation she was employed at Beech Nut Foods in Canajoharie working in the Foods Promotion Department until the birth of her first child.
On June 26, 1948 she was united in marriage to Richard F. Harris at the Pleasant Brook Methodist Church. Following their marriage, they settled down in Currytown, NY and owned and operated Richarion Farms for 31 years. After 62 years of marriage, Richard died on February 20, 2011.
Marion was a member of the Currytown Dutch Reformed Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ladies Guild. Marion also had a lifelong love for music. She enjoyed singing with the Valley Choralaires, Joyful Noise, and Elinor & Friends while entertaining at local venues. Marion was also an avid gardner and a generous neighbor sharing her bounty with family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two children, Robert R. Harris and his wife Kathleen and Carolyn Crouch and her husband, Donald; three grandchildren, Gretchen (Michael) Stallbohm, Jessica Harris and her husband Seth Litzenberger and David Harris; two great grandchildren, Catherine and William Stallbohm; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:30a.m. at the Currytown Reformed Church, 829 State Highway 162, Sprakers, NY 12166 with Rev. Donald Hoaglander and Rev. Jane Hubschmitt co-officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, prior to the service beginning at 9:30a.m. at the church.
Private interment will take place in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arkell Hall Activities Fund, 55 Montgomery Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 or the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078 in Marion’s memory.
