Obituary of Christopher Ray Blackwood

Christopher "Chris" R. Blackwood, age 51, of Johnstown, passed away November 1, 2018 with his loving family by his side.

He was born December 23, 1966 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late Lester Blackwood, Sr. and Erma Shelmandine Blackwood. He was employed for many years as a Supervisor at the Johnstown Price Chopper, most recently working for S.A.S. Merchandising as a Retail Merchandiser. Chris was a loving son, father, grandfather, father in-law, brother and friend to many. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, endless jokes, and always making everyone laugh.  Family meant everything to Chris.  He enjoyed being surrounded by family whether at all the annual family reunions, family celebrations, trips with his daughter, son in-law, and grandson, or just sitting around the table at home visiting with family.  Chris cherished his special bond with his grandson, Christian. You didn’t see Chris often without his little sidekick and best friend.

Christopher is survived by his daughter Shannon Broffitt, his son in-law Stephen Broffitt, his grandson Christian Broffitt, his mother Erma Blackwood, his seven brothers; Lester Blackwood Jr. (Ann), Keith Blackwood Sr., Duane Blackwood (Kelly), Randolph "Randy" Blackwood (Carol), William Blackwood (Starlette), Timothy Blackwood, and David Blackwood (Diane), his one sister Wendy Suchy (Michael), along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was predeceased by his father Lester Blackwood, Sr.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, Tuesday November 6th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 5:00pm with the Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to a charity your choice in Chris’ name.
