Obituary of Marita L. (Gibson) DeCarlo
Marita L. (Gibson) DeCarlo, R.N., 65, of Fort Johnson, NY passed away October 24, 2018, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady with her loving family at her side.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia on June 5, 1953, the daughter of the late Rev. Ralph and Rhea Pauline (Taber) Gibson. She grew up in the Binghamton, NY and was a graduate of Johnson City High School class of 1971. She went on to study nursing in the BOCES program in Schoharie, NY, where she first received her LPN and later went on to receive her R.N. from the Junior College of Albany in 1984.
She moved to the Capital District where she married Ralph P. DeCarlo on June 8, 1985.
Marita was currently employed for the Nurse Connection Staffing Agency in Albany, NY and she also worked as a Nursing Supervisor at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. She also worked at many various nursing facilities and hospitals in the Capital District area throughout her career.
Marita was former member and Vice President of the Schoharie County PWP, she volunteered her time for the Big-Brothers and Big-Sisters organization and the Fresh Air Fund.
Marita enjoyed her coffee, reading books and newspapers, traveling, watching Jeopardy with her husband and cuddling with her "kitties." Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and spoiling them.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Marith (Jamie) Janetsky of Northville, NY, April (Keith) McNab of Halfmoon, NY, Jennifer (Shawn) Maloney of Cohoes, NY, Joanna (Tom Gordon) DeCarlo of Watervliet, NY and Kari (Joseph) Matteo. She was survived by a brother, Carey (Sandy) Gibson of Montrose, PA. Her cherished grandchildren, Rachael Seymour, Madison Janetsky, Lily Janetsky, McKenzie Snyder-Tripp, Samantha McNab, Joseph DeSantis, Dean Maloney, David Maloney, Brittany DeCarlo, Paul Gordon, William Gordon, Zachary Matteo, and Nicole Matteo. She also had several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marita was predeceased by her son, Leon Snyder IV in 1994.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY, with the Rev. Judy Humphrey-Fox presiding. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, November 1, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Marita's favorite flowers were roses.
