Obituary of Joyce Bennett Scheer

Joyce Bennett Scheer, age 87, of Amsterdam, passed away September 8, 2018 at the Wilkinson Residential Nursing Home after a long battle with dementia.  Born in Warsaw, NY, spending her childhood in Gainesville, NY, she lived in the Fulton County area since the mid-1950’s. Having earned both a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, she devoted her life to teaching and enriching the lives of children through music. An avid gardener, her home was always adorned with beautiful plants, bushes and flowers.

Her loving husband Wayne Scheer passed away in July of 2015. She is survived by her son, Bruce Bennett, daughter-in-law Marion Williams-Bennett, and granddaughter Eleanor Bennett of Brookline MA; her sister Carol Metrose and family of Fairport NY, and brother David Crandall and family of Azle, TX. Her brother Neil Crandall predeceased her in 1965.  

The family will receive friends and relatives at 11:00a, Thursday October 18, 2018 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, followed by a memorial service at 12:00p with the Rev. Jerry Oliver officiating.
