Obituary of Edna K Mullarkey
Edna K. Mullarkey, 102, of Amsterdam passed away on September 10, 2018.
Edna was born on February 29, 1916 to Edna Stankevich Kuiber and John Kuiber of Hudson New York. A lifelong area resident she attended local schools, continuing on to the College of St. Rose where she graduated in 1937. Edna worked for the Montgomery County Department of Social Service for over 40 years where she was the Supervisor of Children’s Services until retiring in 1980. She enjoyed volunteering her time to various charity causes and was a Secretary for Big Brothers and Big Sisters for 15 years, a member of Ladies of Charity, as well as the St. Rose Alumni Chapter where she served as Treasurer, she also dedicated her time to the Board of Directors for Red Cross.
Edna was an avid golfer, spending many days on the golf course, and she loved to bowl with her many friends and beloved family. She was united in marriage to Thomas B. Mullarkey II on January 29, 1942. Edna and Thomas spent three wonderful years together until Mr. Mullarkey was killed in action on May 5, 1945, V.E. day while serving his country in Italy. Edna was a devout and devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
Edna is survived by her son Thomas B. Mullarkey III of Kinnelon New Jersey, devoted cousins; Charles and Erika Kuiber, granddaughters; Erin (Matthew) Lieber, and Catherine (Brett) Cortese, as well as four great grandchildren; Hannah C. Lieber, Jackson T. Lieber, James E. Cortese and Page A. Cortese. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas B. Mullarkey II, as well as her parents Edna and John Kuiber.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 13th 2018 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 E. Main St. Amsterdam at 11:15 in the morning with Reverend Father Jeffrey L’arche presiding. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday September 12 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam from 4 o’clock to 7 o’clock in the evening. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery following services.
