Obituary of Harriett Ruth Tallmadge
Harriett Ruth(Kane) Tallmadge, age 89, of Glen, passed away Saturday September 1, 2018 at the Jewish Health and Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse, NY.
She was born in the Town of Sharon, NY (Schoharie County) on February 19, 1929 a daughter of Herbert J. Kane Sr. and Marjorie (Rector) Kane. She was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School.
Harriett worked as an Independent Insurance Agent for “THE Hartford Insurance Company” for over 40 years. She also worked for the Montgomery County Department of Property Taxes and Assessments. She was elected Assessor for the Town of Glen and the Town of Mohawk, NY until her retirement at age 72.
She was an Elder of the Glen Reformed Church and was a 30 year member of the Glen Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
Harriett married Percy(Jim) E. Tallmadge Jr. on April 22, 1950. He passed away on November 28, 2016. Survivors include her two children, Ruth Marie (Peter) Jenkins of Fayetteville, NY and Greg Alan (Susan) Tallmadge of Voorhees, NJ as well as two grandchildren, Kelsey and Zachary of Voorhees, NJ. She is also survived by her sister, Lila MacPhail of Canajoharie, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Ernest J, Everett D., Herbert J., Earl B. and Robert A. Kane, sister, Hazel Kane Aspinwall.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday September, 8, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at the Glen Reformed Church, County Hwy 161, Fultonville with Rev. Thomas Flander Jr. presiding. Interment will be in Maple Ave Cemetery, Fultonville, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday prior to the service at the church from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers in Harriett's memory to the Glen Reformed Church, 1526 State Hwy 161, Fultonville, NY 12072.
