Obituary of Shirley Marie Sanges
Shirley Marie Sanges, 87, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, surrounded by family.
She was born July 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Arthur and Myrtle Beyer. She was united in marriage to Alfred Sanges on August 16, 1953, and would have celebrated their 65th anniversary next month. Shirley loved the ocean and vacationed in Wells Beach, Maine with her children and grandchildren every year for almost 35 years. She planned and looked forward to it each year, and had the happiest memories of times spent there.
Her favorite thing in life was to be around family, and her biggest joy was when everyone was together. She loved hosting family dinners, and was an amazing cook. Tales of her meatballs and stuffed peppers will be told for generations to come. Shirley was endlessly generous with those around her and was always there to listen and give her sage advice.
The matriarch of her family, Shirley is survived by loving husband Alfred Sanges; her daughter Deborah McCann (Wayne); a son James Sanges; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and extended family members. She was predeceased by a son Richard Sanges (Lisa); a brother Ronald Beyer; and sisters Marilyn Rogers and Barbara Abdella.
A private service will be held for immediate family only. Burial will take place in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Please visit the online memorial at www.brbsfuneral.com
