Obituary of Leo J. Motyl
Leo J. Motyl, 88, of Hagaman, NY passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday July 22, 2018, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
He was born on March 12, 1930 in Broadalbin New York. He was the son of the late Joseph and Bernice (Boheneck) Motyl. Leo was employed by the former Wood and Hyde Company in Hagaman, New York for 32 years, prior to retiring. Always a hard worker, Leo stressed the importance of a strong work ethic to his children. He could repair virtually anything and spent a great deal of his free time doing so. He was known for his quick wit, which stayed with him through his final days. Leo was proud of his Polish heritage and collected items reflecting it. He was a communicant of Saint Stanislaus Church.
Leo was married to the late Josephine (Mazur) Motyl on May 15, 1954. They were married for 53 years prior to her death. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children on a Caribbean cruise.
Survivors include one son, Ronald J. Motyl and his wife Patricia, who Leo considered to be his fourth daughter, of Amsterdam, NY. Daughters Susan (Mark) Gutowski of Fort Johnson, NY, Carol (Michael) Prevost of Lake Placid, NY and Jean Miller of Oneonta, NY. He was also proud “Grandfather” to eight grandchildren , Daniel Motyl, Michael Motyl, Karen Bakuzonis, Rebecca Curtain, Alexander Miller, Kasia Swift, Abigail Miller and Jonathon Miller and seven great- grandchildren, Tayler, Justin, Nicole and Jesse Motyl, Blake and Nash Bakuzonis, and Madilyn Swift. He is also survived by his brothers William Motyl, Albert Motyl and Joseph Motyl. He is predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
Calling hours to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday July 25, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. A brief prayer service will be held on Thursday July 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Cornell St. Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Steadwell Ave, Amsterdam.
