Obituary of Catherine A. Leackfeldt
Catherine A. Leackfeldt, 88, formerly of Scotch Church Road, Pattersonville, passed away peacefully Friday morning July 20, 2018 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.
A lifelong resident of Pattersonville, Catherine was born in Gloversville, NY on October 11, 1929 a daughter of the late Nelson and Hilda Kobuskie Atanasoff.
Catherine was employed first at GE in Schenectady. She then raised her children. When the children were older she took a part time position with the Pattersonville Post Office. She eventually became Postmaster retiring in 1987. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, being involved in her church choir and the Altar Rosary Society. She was truly a devoted mother and grandmother.
On December 21, 1952 she was united in marriage to George A. Leackfeldt, he passed away in 2013. She leaves her daughter, Susan L. Munson and her husband Michael of Pattersonville, NY. A son, Stephen M. Leackfeldt and his wife Sandra of Harrington, Maine. Sisters, Marianne (Joseph) Conte of Oneida, NY, Margaret Coates of Ill., brothers, Arthur (Betty) Atanasoff of Utica, NY, Burlin (Ann) Atanasoff of PA., and Mark (Marilyn) Atanasoff of S.C.; grandchildren Melissa (Jesse) Pitts, Austin (Amy) Leackfeldt, Owen (Gigi) Leackfeldt and Kyle Leackfeldt. Two great-grandchildren, Marina and Lydia. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by two brothers, James and John Atanasoff. Sister-in-law, Margaret Leackfeldt, and Mabel Leackfeldt, and brothers-in-law, Walter Leackfeldt, Frank Leackfeldt and Joseph Coates.
The family would like to thank the River Ridge Living Center B wing Nurses and Staff for the wonderful care given to Catherine. They would also like to thank the Community Hospice for their care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday July 28, 2018 at 10:30AM at St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic Church, 1228 Main St., Rotterdam Junction, NY with Father Vincent Ciotoli as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the mass at the church on Saturday beginning at 9:15 A.M. until 10:15A.M. Interment of Cremated Remains will follow in Van Vechten Cemetery, Pattersonville, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 1228 Main St., Rotterdam Junction, NY 12150. or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
