Obituary of Sonya Lea Aird
Sonya Lea Aird, 82, of Sprakers, N.Y passed away on Saturday, June 30th, 2018 with her loving family by her side.
Born on June 17th, 1936 in Canajoharie, N.Y, she was the daughter of Zola Ouderkirk and Fred Yacobucci. Sonya was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Canajoharie High School Class of 1953 and was united in marriage to David Aird on April 28th, 1957. It was a connection that received over 60 years of strong unity and many blessings. Sonya worked as a Home Health Coordinator for many years for the Community Health Center in Johnstown, N.Y. She was altruistic by nature and unselfishly gave her time assisting the Volunteer Ambulance Service in Canajoharie, N.Y. Sonya was a part of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Group of St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam. It had become a major part of her life in recent years and she formed many friendships that became dear to her. Sonya was an avid reader who loved going camping; she was very passionate about her family history and had a deep interest in genealogy. Sonya was very social and outgoing. She loved spending time with family, friends, and her beloved dog CoCo.
Sonya is survived by her husband David; her daughters, Cheri (Michael) Ciani, and Lisa (Joseph) Maiorana; her sons, Christopher (Heather) Aird, and Noel (Stacy) Aird; her grandchildren, Michelle, Michel, Branden, Ron, Kyle, Austin, Mackenzie, and Joseph; her great grandson Malachi; her niece, and her niece’s family whom she was very close with Beth (John) Snyder, and their son Matthew. Many more loving nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Sonya is predeceased by her parents Fred and Zola Yacobucci; her sister Karen Garren; and her brothers, Paul, Jimmy, Neil, and David Yacobucci.
A Memorial Service for Sonya will be held on Saturday July 14th, 2018 at 11am at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie, N.Y. The family will receive visitors from 10-11am prior to the service at the funeral home. Sonya will be laid to rest at Fort Plain Cemetery, 29 Clyde St. Fort Plain, N.Y at the convenience of the family. In Lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Group at St. Mary’s Healthcare, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, N.Y 12010.
