Obituary of Elsin G. Ott
Elsin G. Struensee Ott, age 90 yrs. of Co. Hwy. 107 passed away on June 30, 2018 at the Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville, NY.
Born March 29, 1928 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late August and Reba (VanAlstine) Struensee. She was a lifelong area resident, and was a 1946 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Elsin was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills in Amsterdam for several years.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam. Years ago she was a member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church and St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church choirs.
Elsin loved raising her family and spending time with them especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On March 8, 1947 she married Rudolph H. “Rudy” Ott who passed away on May 9, 2013. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister Reba Luke. Survivors include her loving family, two sons, Timothy E. (Linda) Ott of Amsterdam, NY and Thomas A. (Mary) Ott of Broadalbin, NY. Her daughter Claudia L. (Joseph) Somers of Amsterdam, NY, Five grandchildren Marisa, Megan, Michael, Rebecca, and Joseph, Five great grandchildren Maci, Aiden, Trevor, Emma, and Benjamin. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Mary Lou Ott of Amsterdam and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and Friends are invited to call on Monday July 2, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger Family Funeral Homes, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A Funeral Service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday July 3, 2018 at 11am with Pastor William T. Hodgetts Jr. Pastor of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Amsterdam, NY officiating. A burial will follow in the family plot of the Gerald, B.H. Solomon National Cemetery next to her late husband on Friday July 13, 2018.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the extraordinary care and comfort they provided Elsin during the last several weeks.
