Obituary of Joan B. Himes

Mrs. Joan B. Himes, age 84, of Mayfield, died Wednesday evening, June 20, 2018 at her home.

She was born November 24, 1933 in Bridgeport, CT; the daughter of Francis and Ann Lawyer Barske. She was a Graduate of Bassick High School, Bridgeport, CT and Danbury, CT Hospital Nursing School.  She worked for 30 years as a Registered Nurse at the Manhattan, NY VA Hospital and Englewood Hospital and the VA Hospital in Newington, CT.             

Joan was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, the former Sacred Heart Rosary Society; the Bannertown Senior Citizens Club, the Mayfield Historical Society and the Danbury Hospital Alumni Assoc.

She enjoyed listening to music, loved to read and enjoyed nature in all forms.

Joan is survived by two sisters, Virginia Racktemwald and Janet Thwaits; seven nieces, Mary Grasso (Michael), Annmarie Reagan, Donna Maria Kovacs, Laura Ann Tarsi, Lisa Ann Knipple, Tisha Marie Edwards and Catherine Lyn Cowell; two step-grandsons, Jeffery Kaczor and Timothy Kaczor; as well as her long-time friend, Dorothy "Dottie" MacVean (Paul). She was predeceased by her husband, Edward G. Himes, her parents, and a sister, Ruthann.

Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 25 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Prayer Service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating.

Interment will follow at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
