Obituary of Mary C. LaBate

Mary C. LaBate, 97, formerly of Romeyn Avenue, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 surrounded by her family.  Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 21, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Annunziato and Maria St. Angelo LaBate.

A lifelong city resident, Mary attended local schools and was a high school graduate.  She was employed as the sales manager for the former Holzheimer & Shaul until her retirement in 1984.  Mary was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church.  She also was a member of St. Anthony's Auxiliary and St. Rita's Sodality.  Mary loved to cook and entertain family and friends.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Anthony, John, Joseph, Harry, Sam, Michael, Peter, Jacob and Carmella.

Survivors include her sister, Madeline VanAllen and her husband Robert; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 1:30p.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Jeffrey L'Arche M.S. as celebrant.   Visitation for friends will be held prior to the Mass at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Mary's Church beginning at 12:30p.m. Family members are invited to gather at 11:30a.m. Burial will take place in the family plot in St. Michael's Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Montgomery County Office for Aging, 135 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John Fedullo and the nursing staff at the Edward L. Wilkinson Nursing Center for their compassionate care and love extended to Mary during her final years.
