Obituary of Stephen Hoshlyk
Stephen Hoshlyk, age 97, of Broadalbin, died Friday, June 1, 2018 at Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility, Amsterdam.
He was born February 28, 1921 in Newark, NJ, the son of Nickolas and Anna Damaski Hoshlyk. He served in the US Army Air Corps 9th Air Force, 406th Fighter-Bomber Group during World War II in the European Theater where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Steve worked 30 plus years for the Town of Broadalbin Highway Dept. including 13 years as Highway Superintendent. He also served as Town Councilman and St. Basil's Cemetery Trustee for many years.
He was a member of the Broadalbin American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, birdwatching and spending time with his family, friends and pets.
Steve is survived by a daughter, Nancy Hoshlyk of Broadalbin, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Steve was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Rita Warren Hoshlyk; a daughter, Linda Hoshlyk; six brothers and sisters, John Hoshlyk, Peter Hoshlyk, Nickolas Hoshlyk, Fred Hoshlyk, Anna Honeymar and Mary Kenney.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will take place
11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating.
Interment will take place at St. Basil's Ukrainian Cemetery, Broadalbin.
