Obituary of Edward S. Meliosky

Mr. Edward Meliosky, 87, of Locust Avenue, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Albany Medical Center following a short illness. Born on September 27, 1928 he was the son of the late Michael and Edna Luksis Milauskas. A lifelong city resident, Ed was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute. He served proudly in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer from 1950- 1952. Ed was a self-employed electrical motor repair guru and for a time owned Grade's Electric. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and Montreal. A sports enthusiast, he was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and coaching CYO Girls Basketball, Volleyball and followed Duke University Basketball. He also enjoyed Polka music. Most of all, he was a supporter and coach to his family, especially his grandchildren. Ed will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. On November 13, 1955 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Frances Nowicki Meliosky. That union lasted 59 years until her passing on January 7, 2014. He was also predeceased by his sister, Molly Pavlak. Survivors include a son, Michael Meliosky and his wife Diane of Amsterdam; a daughter, Susan Schinnerer and her husband Don of Fort Johnson; four grandchildren: Michelle (David) Gildersleeve, Jessica (Joshua) Kohout, Erica (Kyle) Flanigan and Amanda Meliosky; six great- grandchildren: James, Parker, Lucas, Peter, Cecilia and Tanner, who was born on March 9, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, March 14, 2015 at 11a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Jeffrey L'Arche as celebrant. Burial will follow with in St. Casimir's Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2 until 5p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
