Obituary of Claire Schwendy Flanigan
Claire Schwendy Flanigan, 64, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Gloversville, NY. Born April 19, 1951 in Carthage, NY, she was the daughter of Evelyn Green Schwendy and the late Theodore Schwendy.
Claire graduated from Carthage Central School in 1969 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Her career as a Music Teacher spanned a number of school districts in New York, South Carolina, and Missouri. The bulk of her professional career was spent working at Wheelerville Union Free School, Caroga Lake, NY and Edinburg Common School, Edinburgh, NY. She retired in 2011.
Claire was a committed Christian, mother and wife who loved music and children. She was a member of the Fulmont Community Church in Johnstown, NY.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 43 years, Louis J. Flanigan of Gloversville; son John Flanigan and his wife Ellen of San Antonio, TX; daughter Erin Keefe and husband Mike of Plattsburgh, NY; daughter Riane Clairmont and husband Sean of Cohoes, NY; mother Evelyn Schwendy; brother Glen Schwendy and wife Rolayne of Oriental, NC; and grandchildren Ben, Aaron, Josalyn and Jack Flanigan, Ethan Beck and Kaylee and Sean Clairmont.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 6 P.M. at Fulmont Community Church, 144 Harrison Street, Johnstown, NY 12095 with Pastor Greg Meyers officiating. In continuation of Claire's celebration of life, a reception will follow in the church hall until 8 P.M. All are invited and welcome. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Claire's memory to either the Wheelerville Union Free School, (Attn: Nancy Insognia), PO Box 756, Caroga Lake, NY 12032 or the Edinburg Common School, 4 Johnson Road, Edinburg, NY 12134. Proceeds will go to the music department at the respective school.
