Obituary of Alvida R. Messineo

Mrs. Alvida R. Messineo, 94, of Grand St., Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Saturday April 9, 2016 surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 23, 1922 a daughter of the late Antonio and Michelina Decressci Pallone. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam. Alvida worked for over 35 years at St. Mary's Hospital first in Housekeeping then as Laundry Supervisor in Amsterdam. Mrs. Messineo was a homemaker also and took great care of her children and family. She enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting. She also enjoyed her many trips to Florida. She married Alfonso F. Messineo on November 28, 1940. He passed away on January 4, 1993. Survivors include her beloved children, Leona M.(John) Chirico of Gloversville, NY, Alfonso F. Messineo Jr. of Amsterdam, Joseph M. Messineo of Ft. Myers, Florida, Sylvia A. (Joseph) Connolly of Amsterdam, Anthony T. (Marilyn) Messineo of Amsterdam, NY , MaryAnn (Gary) Kozlowski Sr. of Amsterdam, NY. One sister, Marie Vecchio of Amsterdam. Her cherished grandchildren, Cheri (Mark) Chirico, David (Jana) Chirico, Lisa (Joe) Angelo, Joe Chirico, Marianne (Matt)Kruger, Kristen Messineo and Kara Messineo, Gary (Katrina) Kozlowski Jr., John J. Kozlowski and Kayla (Mark) Weinkiper. Great-grandchildren, Nicole, Chrissy, Melissa, Gianni, D.J., Marc, Catherine and Timothy. Her great-great grandchildren, Hannah, Davia, Ava, Lily, A.J. and Audrina. Nieces, nephews cousin and friends also survive. Alvida was predeceased by her grandson, John Chirico on November 21, 1992 and siblings, Angeline Kissinger in 1991, Malone Pallone in 2001 and Mary Martin in 2009. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday April 14, 2016 at 11:15AM at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam with Father Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Private interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday April 13, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
