Obituary of Jean R. Winsman

Slingerlands, NY—Jean R. Winsman, 87, passed away at her residence, Sunday afternoon, July 31, 2016 at The Terrace at Beverwyck with her loving family at her side. Born October 18, 1928 in Bellville, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Antonina and Anthony Russo. She lived most of her life in the Fonda-Fultonville area until 4 years ago before moving to The Terrace at Beverwyck. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ryder University and a Master's Degree in Education from the Albany State University. Jean was employed for over 39 years as a school teacher at the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District. She also co-owned and operated with her husband Wilbur, the Poplar's Restaurant in Fultonville for many years. She was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church and the NYS Teachers Union. Jean enjoyed golfing and could swing a mean club. She also loved baking especially when she would make her chocolate rolls enjoyed by family and friends. She also loved to crochet. Jean was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was married to her late husband Wilbur S. Winsman for over 54 years. She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Lou Winsman of Holyoke, Massachusetts, Beth (Robert) Gatto of Ballston Lake and Cathy Jean (Marty) Waite of Johnstown; grandchildren, David and Benjamin Gabelman and Nicholas and Johnathan Emery; nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 1:00 PM at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with the Rev. Jennifer Yeske officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda. The Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
