Obituary of Shirley J. Batease

Shirley J. Batease, 86, of Tribes Hill, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at her home with her loving family at her side. Born March 11, 1930 in Newbury, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Nellie Peters Hier. She was educated in Vermont and moved from Bennington, VT to Amsterdam, New York in 1954. She was a high school graduate an attended Schenectady County Community College. Shirley was employed at the original Brownies Restaurant on East Main St., Amsterdam. She also worked at Esquire Novelty, Bay Shore and was a Head Start Bus Attendant. She then was employed at the former Holiday Inn in Amsterdam for 13 years before going to work for McDonald's Corporation, retiring in 1991. She attended the 1st Baptist Church in Amsterdam. Shirley loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to Country Music especially Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, and also watching and listening to birds and watching daytime soaps. Survivors include four sons, George (Janet) Batease of Gloversville, Raymond (Marlene) Batease of Florida, John (Robin) Batease, Jr. of Amsterdam and Dan (Sari) Batease of Gloversville; five daughters, Jennie Lasher of Gloversville, Eleanor Follett of Worcester, Massachusetts, Elaine Crouse of Amsterdam, Susan (George, Sr.) Braender of Amsterdam and Tammy (William Bottisti) Hume of Tribes Hill, NY; 33 grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren and 27 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. Shirley was predeceased by her children, Gary Paul Batease, Shirley "Penny" Batease, granddaughter, Sabrina Cleveland, grandsons, Timothy and Alan Batease and great-grandsons, Zachary Attwood and Kavin. Funeral services will be held on Friday August 5, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday prior to the funeral service from 10:00 to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
