Mrs. Gloria I. Wendell of Hickory Hill Road, Fonda, New York died peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2016. She was 90. Born July 27, 1926 in Gloversville, NY she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Concetta Papa Evangelista. Gloria graduated from Gloversville High School and attended Albany College of Pharmacy. She was the beloved partner and soulmate of the late Franklin J. "Judge" Wendell for 66 years and the heart and soul of their family. Gloria will be remembered for her kind and gentle manner and all that she did for her family, the community, the school system, and her church. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a parishioner of St. Cecelia's Roman Catholic Church, an active member of the Rosary Society of St. Cecelia's Church, past President and active member of the Fonda Fultonville Central High School (FFCS) PTA, Den Mother of the local Cub Scout troop Pack 42, Teacher's Aide at FFCS, Montgomery County Literacy Project Volunteer and co-coordinator with her husband Founder and past Director, Franklin J. Wendell, and she served side by side with her husband former Town Justice Franklin J. Wendell as his Court Clerk in the Town of Mohawk for 42 years. Gloria was honored with the 2003 Court Clerk of the Year award by the New York State Magistrates Court Clerks Association. She is survived by her beloved children, Marcia Schoff and her husband Philip of Fort Plain, NY, Tricia Wendell and her husband Michael DeSimone of Waterford, NY, David Wendell of Fonda, NY, Bruce Wendell of Johnstown, NY, and F. Timothy Wendell and his wife Lynn of Fonda, NY; six cherished grandchildren, Wendi Waters and her husband Keith, Caryn Kovatch and her husband Eric, Philip Schoff and his wife Erica, Kristin Wendell and her husband Jeremy Tchaban, Lauren Wendell, and Monica Wendell; four very special great-grandchildren Kyla Kovatch, Jack, Reid, and Ryan Waters; her sister-in-law Marjorie Wendell Go of Whitinsville, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Gloria shared her many gifts and talents with her grandchildren including learning to read, playing the piano, bird watching, gardening, and cooking. She taught her family to "do all things with great love!" A special thank you is extended to her home health aides and care givers (Terry, Bonnie, Becky, Sherry, Breanna, Donna, Amanda, Crystal, Savannah, and Dani), the Palliative Care providers and nurses at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY, and Community Hospice of Amsterdam, NY. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Irma Conway, Hugo Evangelista, Victor Evangelista, Achilles Evangelista, and Olga Gardella. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. Funeral and burial services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY.
