Obituary of Samuel F. Capato
Mr. Samuel F. Capato, age 89, a longtime Gloversville resident, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Albany Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.
He was born October 23, 1915 in Syracuse, NY, the son of John and Carmella Derrago Capato. He was employed by the former Lewis Meyers and Sons Glove Company of Gloversville for many years.
Mr. Capato recently resided at Our Lady of Hope Residence in Latham. He will be deeply missed by his many friends and loving family. He was described by many as a perfect gentleman, with a kind spirit and gentle soul.
Mr. Capato was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville.
He was married October 24, 1938 to Florence J. Derrico who died April 5, 1992. He is survived by two children, Rev. Justin John Capato, OSB, of Cedar Knolls, NJ; and Carmella Hills and her husband Wayne of Scotia, NY; a brother Alphonso Capato and his wife Irene of Syracuse, 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister Josephine Varre of Syracuse.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM Saturday at Our Lady Of Hope Chapel, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY. The Rev. Justin J. Capato, son of the deceased, will be the celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to The Little Sisters of The Poor, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12110.
